Starting from the Highland Mary Lakes TH, the route climbs to Spencer Basin. We exit the basin and cross the tundra with great views. Nearing the overlook of Elk Creek, we will descend to Verde Lakes and then decide whether to go back via Highland Mary Lakes or the Continental Divide Trail.
