SO! General Meeting & Program

Tuesday, August 10, 5:30 pm

Updated Speaker-Masks Required Indoors

Our scheduled speaker for the SO! Aug 10 meeting has abruptly withdrawn from her speaking commitment and we have a timely and relevant replacement presentation. Hope to see many of you there.

Place and date: Durango Rec Center meeting rooms, Aug 10

Social time: 5:30-6:00 PM on patio outside of meeting rooms (please by-pass the meeting rooms and go directly to the patio when you arrive)                                                                                          Meeting and presentation: 6:00-7:00 PM in meeting rooms

Presentation title: “A public-private partnership aims to preserve our public lands in the San Juan Mountains area”

Speaker: Stephanie Weber

Presentation summary: It’s no surprise: human outdoor use has exploded over the past year in southwest Colorado. San Juan Mountains Association, as a partner to federal land management agencies, has responded to that growth with a creative and hopefully effective solution. Please join this presentation to hear what San Juan Mountains Association does, has been doing, and hopes to do in response to the secret of the San Juans being discovered by multitudes of people.

Speaker bio: Stephanie Weber, executive director of SJMA, returned home to Durango in 2017 to give back to the land that gave her so much during her adolescent years.  With a varied career in advocacy for environmental issues, urban planning, and scientific research, she returned to lead Durango Nature Studies (DNS). She was instrumental in the merger between DNS and SJMA before COVID hit last year, and just recently took the helm of SJMA.

SO! activities are limited to fully vaccinated members, and face masks must be worn when indoors.
