Search and Rescue Card

Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue Card

The high cost associated with backcountry search and rescue operations cannot be overstated. Members are strongly encouraged to purchase a Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) card. For the cost of the card, you help ensure that trained and well equipped search and rescue teams will respond should you become lost or in need of rescue, and they will not have to personally incur expense due to your emergency. Holders of a current card will not be billed for the cost of a legitimate search and rescue effort on their behalf.

The card is NOT insurance. it does not pay medical expenses, including transport. The card will allow reimbursement to county sheriffs for eligible costs incurred on a mission. These costs can include mileage, meals, replacement of lost equipment, rental fees for equipment, and reimbursement for gasoline.

If you already have a Colorado Wildlife Habitat Stamp, current Colorado fishing or hunting license, or a valid Colorado registration for a snowmobile, boat, or ATV, you do not need this card as you are already covered.

You can purchase a card online at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dola/search-and-rescue-fund, or from the Durango-area entities listed below. Cost is $3 per year or $12 for 5 years.
